I think I caught all but two of the big crashes (IIRC there was one literally shortly before I got here, and then another which happened during the roughly 13 months of time I was essentially off the KP/ due to conflicts with certain people and the fact that it was taking upwards of five minutes for me to open a thread...)... And, yeah, I've been here a while, since I was here before Wyodaze was...

Benzie, I'll really dumb this down for you. Basically: Shrink had everything after 06-30-12 at 11:30 saved to someone else's computer, and they censored what was being saved... And then there was no back-up because... Idk, there should have been one.

TSO ... first of all, the new server didn't censor what was being saved, it censored some of what was being submitted.

Second of all ... I'm so ... so tired of you bitching about everything and averyone without even coming close to offering a solution. In the months you've been here, have you donated to the upkeep of the server? After all, the more the upkeep is supported, the better the back-ups will be, don't you think?

If you did donate ... thanks for the effort. But if you didn't, please stop acting as if you're entitled to decide how this board should be run or used.

That's the thing. I MADE a backup of the site there.. The big problem was that the backup program on the other server failed and ate the data. I am somewhat unimpressed with their services..

i remember when the whole board went kablooey a few years back. I lost my whole first year of posts, and others lost more. That included a lot of my earliest serious writing. It was frustrating, to say the least. There have been other times.

The point being, save your shit.

Programmers have an often quoted thing of "Save early, safe often! Life is uncertain." I think we need to add to it "And always save it in at least 2 places."

SQL Databases don't have size limits as such, but after a while they do grow to a point of being unwieldy and hard to work with. The KP's SQL uses over 300MB and has reached that stage where it's hard to handle it size wise. Just as an example, some of the problems I hit were programs that wouldn't allow importing of such a large database.. I actually had to split it into chunks and import in pieces to get around that issue. I was up till 2am trying to fix this board and now back up for work this morning.. I almost gave up and left it for the weekend.
