Well, we managed to get a van (1993 Dodge Grand Caravan) for $1500.. But that's got our budget stretched WAY thin.. *sigh* gonna be a low-food month..

Congratulations. Have you hauled the old one to a scrap yard? Older vans have a lot of metal and the scrap yards pay good money for them.

I also know someone who has people who pay him to take cars down to Texas to scrap them because it pays better down there or something.

Just something I thought I'd input. ^_^

Last time was home, I hauled a car to the local scrap yard. Without the engine and trans, I got $490 for it. They were paying about 10 cents per hundred pounds.

Just remember if you take one in the States, you have to remove the battery, drain the fluids, and drop the gas tank. I don't know about Mexico...

EDIT: Oh, yeah. What was your direct PayPal email again?

You do? We sold one that required nothing but the battery removed. Perhaps we just have better junkyards.

Huh. Perhaps I stand corrected... But yeah, the place I took my car to required those things be done. Of course, I took the engine, trans, driveshaft, rear end, and a few other little do-dads. The T-Bird SCs have a fully-independent rear suspension and pretty sweet 8.8" rear ends... I had to keep mine. ^_^

There is also at least in Va a certain order of scraper that advertises in teh paper that they will come to your house, load the car onto a truck and cut you a check right there for it no more work on your part. I'm thinking they advertise at about $250 for a car though a good shot less than you'd get taking it in yourself but an option.

That's about half what you'd get taking it yourself, but then you have to consider the fact you'd actually have to take it yourself. The convenience is nice. I've been toying with the idea of picking up a cheap car trailer and a winch. Where I live, you can often times get people who will let you take their junk cars either for free, or for $50 or so. They just want rid of them. About an hour of work, and an hour driving and presto! About $400 per car net profit!

Oh, wait... Hey, everybody, put a few duckets in the plate already!

It's a pretty good business. The people that just moved in across the street from me, do it for a living.
