Well, here we are in California.. Applied for food stamps and medicaid early last month like we were supposed to.. I have my medicaid card, my wife does not. Food stamps say they could take up to >45 days< from Feb 8th (when we applied) to render a decision. Meantime with the bills we have to pay I have a total of $50 left to feed us for a month. So, if you have anything to spare, we need help. We're doing everything we're supposed to do and STILL having issues.. Fun, eh?

I know if you have less than a certain amount in your account you can get emergency food stamps. I donated what I could spare. Hope it helps!

Link was wonky here is info:
Emergency Food - Expedited Services for CalFresh

What is Expedited Services?

If you qualify for Expedited Services, you have the right to get emergency CalFresh benefits within three (3) business days from the time the county gets your application. Saturday and Sunday count as one day when determining the three days.

Who is eligible for Expedited Services?

Households may qualify for Expedited Services based if the household:

Has less than $150.00 in monthly gross income and you do not have resources over $100.00; or,
Resources Include: Liquid resources, such as cash on hand, money in checking or savings accounts, savings certificate, trust deeds, notes receivable, stocks or bonds, non-recurring lump sum payments, funds held in individual retirement accounts (IRAs) and funds held in accessible Keogh plans.
Migrant or seasonal farm workers who are destitute; or,
Migrant Farmworkers: an individual who does not live at his/her home, but rather travels from place to place outside the project area in which the individual resides, to seek employment in an agricultural production activity. A migrant household is a household which includes a member who is a migrant farmworker during the certification period.
Seasonal Farmworker: a non-migrating individual who is employed seasonally in an agricultural production activity during the certification period. A seasonal farmworker household is a household where any member is a seasonal farmworker.
Your household's total monthly income and resources are less than the household's monthly rent or mortgage, and utilities; or

Supervised shelter designed to provide temporary accommodations
A halfway house or similar institution that provides temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized;
A temporary accommodation in the residence of another individual for no more than 90 days
Is my property used to figure out if I can get Expedited Services?

If you need emergency CalFresh benefits (Expedited Service), resources/property are considered and must be reported.

How do I know if I am eligible for Expedited Services?

The county will look at your application and see if you meet the rules for Expedited Service. If it looks like you might be eligible, the county will contact you.

We're surviving; barely.. Thanks for asking.. Things here could be worse, but it's definitely not "ideal" in any way, shape, or form...

Is your application for food assistance proceeding properly?; Is your Medical in place yet so that it may cover your Medicare
premiums, and for that matter, has a local county Medical plan in place yet to act as supplemental coverage for Medicare?
Medical, in California, has recently been screwing-up royally and sending out erroneous "Action Notices" that produce endless FUBAR.
As it was explained to me by someone going through this Hellish process, they needed to enlist a Legal Aid Society for low-income
people to sort out the Medical mess, and then begin the sisyphean task of getting Social Security to refund them the benefits they
were withholding to cover the Medical shortfall. All of this because Social Security increased these people's income by $4 monthly,
and Medical mistranslated it as a monthly increase of $450, which demanded a share-of-cost Medical payment of $830... that's right;
because their Social Security increased $48 a year, their share of cost was now $9,000+

:o :o :o

Welcome to the state that touts itself as the Eighth Largest Economy in the World, the very flower of socialism, liberalism,
and progressive care of the poor...

Yeah, right... :roll:

Let me know if the food situation remains dire, O.K.? :x

Cheers!

We have food stamps to the tune of $194/mo for 2 people... Not really enough. I do have medi-cal, my wife is waiting for them to approve her.. However SSA has said they overpaid me and are now reducing my benefit to recover the overpayment.. However, according to my award letters and bank records they have >not< ever overpaid me.. Always something.
