Interesting addendum: My cable's been acting up lately, so I've been doing the usb tethering thing with my smartphone. For a while, coming here was fine; then it started doing the same thing that my phone did on its own. No idea why.

most phone companies say "fuck you very much" to tethering, because it's not "unlimited" data, it's "unlimited*" data, there the asterisk means you're not allowed to tether, or use more than 2 gigas a month, so they are probably throttling you and about to send you a nasty letter

Well I got 10gb monthly at 5/1 after which they take the speed down to 512/256 or something.. havent managed to hit that limit yet, ofcourse i only really use it for thethering when I have my lappy out of the house. of if the cable is down. Still I wouldn't call myself a lightweight datauser.

Nothing to add to the discussion, but I have to say, I type a good sixty to seventy percent of my posts on my phone. An iPhone, at least, is not a terrible way to contribute to the Haven.

No experience with Android, however.

I can report that Bolt Browser on the BlackBerry 8530 Curve II doesn't login; nor does the BlackBerry Playbook through the BlackBerry network connection. I'm a US customer, not Canadian, so my carrier doesn't have a Tethering option, thus I've not been able to try that. The Playbook works a treat on the home Wi-Fi, though. Might be my carrier's being a bastard.

Logged back in through cable, now I'm going through my phone again, and so far it's fine; wouldn't be surprised if something happened again after a while, though. This is still the only site it's ever happened with. Bit peculiar, really, innit? I think when I'm done I'll unhook it and try with just the phone again, see what happens...

Cable's still tempremental, but I suspect the problem is in my machine. I was planning to upgrade soon, maybe splurge one of those fancy Alienware desktops. Perhaps now is the time.

using windows, Trahern?

if so, after running an Antivirus scan and a malware scan to check for baddies, you can do the following.

Spoiler:
In Windows XP, click Start, then Run, then type in CMD (or CMD.exe if your system is being picky) and hit enter, okay, or run.

a black command prompt (looks like dos on most systems) window will open.

type in the following once it is ready

Code: Select all

netsh i i de ar

Hit enter, and it will say OK or go to the next line. this will flush your computer's ARP cache (part of the network stack)

then type in

Code: Select all

ipconfig /flushdns

hit enter and it will go to the next line after a confirmation. this will rebuild your system's DNS cache with fresh info from the internet.

Then type in

Code: Select all

netsh i i r r

(spaces between all the letters)
hit enter, it will tell you that you need to restart your computer. This rebuilds most of the windows Winsock Resetlog.log file, which holds most configuration information about your network connection, and can become corrupted or oversized after a while. (more common in XP than later version of Windows)

type

Code: Select all

exit
to close the command prompt window, and restart your PC.

For Windows Vista or 7, instead of Start, and Run, you need to open your start menu, and type in "powershell" at the top of the start menu, an icon for Windows Powershell will appear. right click it, and select "run as Administrator" to open the blue and white Power shell window. Type in those same above commands.

I use avast! antivirus and Malwarebyte's anti-malware. Only knew the dns flush command, so thanks for the other two. Cable seems stable now, but still slower than it used to be; I can stream the new Doctor Who episodes and such through the phone so I'm happy for the moment. Good thing I stopped playing WoW in May.

And the phone still doesn't log into here on its own, so nothing new there. Only a big deal when I lack another connection, really.
